Throughout February, your Orange County Library System offers opportunities for all ages to learn, grow and connect through programming focused on culture and heart healthy habits.
Celebrate the Chinese New Year at Orlando Public Library Saturday, February 7, at 11 a.m. Explore Chinese New Year traditions with a spectacular performance by The Chinese School of CAACF. Or head on over to West Oaks Branch at 10 a.m. on February 7 for the Family History Fair. Geared toward kids and teens, families can explore their roots and earn a Genealogy Explorer Passport while meeting up with local genealogy groups and experts in the field.
Our annual African American Read-In is a family-centered event of African American literature, poetry and music performed by local celebrities. Join us at Orlando Public Library at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, for this energetic and memorable event.
February is Heart Month and your library partners with the American Heart Association and HCA Florida Healthcare to offer blood pressure monitoring kits to Orange County communities through the Libraries With Heart program. Stop by Southwest Branch and checkout a kit to use at home; they come with a blood pressure monitor, detailed Instructions in English and Spanish and a log to make it easy to track your blood pressure and inform your doctor.
The library brings experts right to you with virtual and in-person Heart Month programs. Join Jessica Daly, health literacy coordinator with AdventHealth University, February 16 at 11 a.m. for Cholesterol: Knowing What the Numbers Mean, an informative program that explains the importance of knowing what your cholesterol number means for you and your health. Exercise your heart with line dancing February 13 at Southwest Branch. This fun, beginner dance class is great for memory, coordination and balance.
There is so much to do and learn at your library. Stop by Southwest Branch and pick up a copy of our monthly magazine, Books & Beyond, or visit ocls.org for more classes, events and programs that I know you’ll love.
