Charity Spotlight | By Savannah Tradd
A Dr. Phillips-based nonprofit making a national impact for those who served.
Our community is home to countless men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform, neighbors, friends, and family members whose courage and sacrifice remind us every day what service truly means. Each Veterans Day, we proudly thank them. But for many of us, gratitude comes with a question: How can I really make a difference?
We’ve all wanted to volunteer, donate, or get involved, yet it can be hard to know which veteran charities truly use resources wisely. That uncertainty is exactly why Charities for Vets was created. Founded in Dr. Phillips, the organization brings clarity, accountability, and trust to charitable giving for veterans.
Charities for Vets operates under the RAM Veterans Foundation, a nonprofit established by longtime Central Florida resident Rick Berman, whose career in law, business, and public affairs inspired a passion for transparency. After years of studying how donations were spent, Berman discovered that while billions are raised each year in the name of veterans, many charities fall short of directing those funds where they are most needed. Determined to protect both donors and veterans, he and his team built CharitiesForVets.org, a comprehensive, free-to-use resource that evaluates and rates veteran-focused charities nationwide.
What sets this organization apart is its uncompromising integrity. Its founders and executives take no salaries, allowing every dollar to serve the mission of helping donors give confidently. Their work highlights charities that are financially responsible, efficiently run, and genuinely effective in improving the lives of veterans and their families.
From its home base in Dr. Phillips, Charities for Vets has become a national voice for ethical giving, empowering Americans to make informed choices and ensuring that generosity reaches those who have already given so much.
This Veterans Day, as flags wave and tributes are shared, Charities for Vets reminds us that gratitude is more than a feeling; it’s an action. By giving wisely, we honor our veterans not just with words, but with meaningful impact that upholds the very values they served to protect. For more information, visit CharitiesForVets.org
