Frank Krens of the Rotary Club of Windermere

Frank and Diane Krens have called Windermere home since 1979. Frank’s love for the town has only deepened through time, leading him to devote his talents to its betterment.

After a distinguished career as an aerospace engineer, retiring in 2013, Frank sought new avenues to channel his energy and expertise. He joined both the Windermere Tree Board and the Rotary Club, organizations that align with his passion for community service and environmental stewardship.

"Community service has given me ways to use my skills and resources to serve others," Frank shares. "It has also introduced me to a fascinating and diverse group of local business people — individuals I might never have met otherwise, some of whom have become lifelong friends."

Within the Rotary Club, Frank's commitment is evident. He has served in multiple leadership roles, including Youth Services Coordinator, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Chair, and even President. His dedication extends beyond Rotary; he currently chairs the Windermere Tree Board and actively contributes to the Long-Range Planning Committee and the Historic Preservation Board. Frank has been the driving force behind organizing the annual Rotary/Town of Windermere Memorial Day and Veterans Day events for the past few years, ensuring these important traditions continue to honor those who have served our nation.

Frank's involvement has allowed him to work closely with town management, staff, and fellow volunteers. He speaks highly of them, saying, "I'm proud of how our town and its police force are run—the integrity, diligence, quality of service, and the sense of community they build are truly commendable."

Frank fondly describes himself as both a "farm boy" and a "rocket guy." Growing up on a dairy farm, he learned the value of hard work early on, milking 30 cows before and after school. This strong work ethic propelled him to pursue an aerospace engineering degree from Penn State University. His professional journey includes impactful stints at the Naval Surface Weapons Center, Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin), and Coleman Aerospace (now L3Harris Aerojet Rocketdyne Coleman Aerospace).

His blend of professional excellence and heartfelt service continues to enrich Windermere, making it not just a town, but a family. We are grateful for Frank's commitment to the Rotary Club of Windermere and to the community.

Join Frank at the next Rotary meeting and consider how you too might get involved in our wonderful community!
