Summer is here so if you’re looking for ways to beat the heat with fun and worthwhile activities for all ages, make your local library branch your first stop. From music programs to storytimes, coding classes to STEAM activities, the programs and events at Orange County Library System are fun, educational and, best of all, free.
Windermere Branch offers a lot of great events just for teens this summer. Teens interested in learning fiber arts skills can join us at 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, to make a bookmark and new friends during Crochet for Teens and at 10:30 a.m., Friday June 6, for a teens-only Intro to Sewing Machines. On Wednesday, June 18, at 2 p.m., teens can create surrealist-inspired art during Design Like Dali and at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, they can catch a retro vibe making Shrinky Dink Suncatchers.
Adults will find fresh summer programming at Windermere Branch in June. Bring your plants, cuttings and questions to the experts from IFAS at our popular Plant Clinic from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 3. Every Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. is Adult Game Time for weekly organized play and the chance to meet new friends. If you want to enjoy library programming from the comfort of your living room, there are plenty of virtual options for adults as well, including a decluttering and packing tips session with expert organizer Jamie Novak at 6:30 p.m. on June 4. There are lots more programs just for adults; visit ocls.org/adultsummer to learn more and register for your spot!
Summer is a great time to stretch your brain with our Summer Reading Challenges. Use the Beanstack app or pick up a paper tracker at your library. Kids and adults can enter to win fun prizes just by completing the reading challenges. Kids who read and log at least 600 minutes may also register to attend the End of Summer Celebration at 10:30 a.m. on July 23 at Windermere Branch.
Programs and classes fill up quickly so visit ocls.org/summer and sign up for a favorite class or try something new! Summer is brighter with Orange County Library System.
