The Congressional Award recognizes individuals ages 14–24 who demonstrate exceptional commitment to voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and exploration. Earning the Gold Medal is no small feat; it requires hundreds of documented hours over several years.

Lucy, a senior at The First Academy (Class of 2026), and Emerson, a Liberty University graduate headed to Harvard Law School this fall, joined hundreds of fellow Gold Medalists from across the nation for a full itinerary of activities in the capital.

While in D.C., they participated in Capitol Hill meetings with members of Congress, attended leadership and networking events, posed for a group photo on the National Mall, and cheered on the Washington Nationals during a fun night at the ballpark. A major highlight of the trip for both Lucy and Emerson was the unforgettable opportunity to tour the White House.

Their achievement represents not only personal perseverance but also a spirit of civic engagement that reflects positively on the Windermere community. As recipients of the Gold Medal, Lucy and Emerson now join an elite group of young leaders recognized by Congress for their commitment to service and excellence.
