Does Your Garage Floor Need a Makeover?

Business Profile | By Savannah Tradd

Shut the front door — because it’s time to talk about the space that has quietly become the main entry point to homes today: The Garage.

Once used only for vehicles, garages now serve as the primary point of arrival for busy families and their guests. As homeowners look for ways to protect and enhance their home’s value, garage improvements continue to gain popularity. Often accounting for as much as 10 percent of a home’s total square footage, the garage is frequently overlooked—despite the role it now plays in shaping a first impression.

It is the belief of Rich Whiddon, owner of the Orlando-based Granite Garage Floors franchise, that if today’s homeowners knew there was an option beyond oil-stained concrete or peeling gray paint, they would quickly embrace the opportunity to upgrade to a designer-quality finish that “looks and lasts like granite.”

A Windermere resident since 2004, Rich explains what sets their process apart. “We focus heavily on proper preparation of the garage floor using an industrial diamond grinding process,” he says. “This removes all previous coatings and stains, leaving the concrete clean and porous, which maximizes adhesion of the coating system. That preparation is critical because we guarantee against hot-tire pickup—the number one failure people experience with garage floor coatings.”

Rich adds that their machines are connected to a vacuum system that captures dust, and that all cracks or imperfections are repaired before installation begins. “Our proprietary system uses commercial-grade products, not the kits you find at home improvement or paint stores. Decorative flakes are added at varying rates to create the look of granite, quartz, or terrazzo, depending on the finish selected.”

“Once installed,” Rich says, “the final product not only looks amazing, it’s extremely durable, chemical-resistant, and easy to clean, with an orange-peel texture that provides anti-slip properties.”

Beyond the product itself, Granite Garage Floors has built its reputation on understanding the frustrations that often accompany home improvement projects. Their goal is to deliver an exceptional customer experience through clear communication, timely installation, and a lifetime satisfaction warranty.
