Architectural Elegance & Preservation

The white Oakland Arms Estate, established circa 1910, beneath moss-draped oaks

Nestled among the live oaks of West Orange County, the iconic Oakland Arms Estate has officially entered its next chapter. This extraordinary home, steeped in over a century of history, has been entrusted to new owners, who value preservation.

Windermere and Winter Garden share more than proximity, they share a story etched in the soil, shaped by groves, and built on generations of community spirit. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the fertile muck lands around Lake Apopka drew citrus pioneers like Charles Herbert Tilden, who constructed Oakland Arms, and his father, Luther Tilden. Their efforts laid the groundwork for the neighborhoods fondly known as Tildenville and surrounding communities of Oakland, and Winter Garden, helping establish West Orange County as a cornerstone of Florida’s citrus industry.

The Real Estate Collection has been deeply honored to represent the sellers of Oakland Arms in this historic transaction, especially meaningful after the property remained in their family for nearly 50 years. Being entrusted with a home of such personal and historic significance is a privilege we never take lightly.

In an era where rapid development often outpaces reflection, it’s a hopeful reminder of the importance of honoring the places that make our communities truly special. What makes this moment even more exciting is what lies ahead. Having a profound respect for the heritage of Oakland Arms, the new owners plan to fully restore the mansion, preserving its architectural beauty while introducing the home to 21st-century living.

“It has been a true honor to walk alongside this family through such a meaningful transition,” said Kari Fleck, Broker of The Real Estate Collection. “This home carries generations of memories, and helping them translate decades of history, values, and vision into a real estate journey that honored their wishes was incredibly meaningful. To help bring about the outcome they had quietly hoped and prayed for, and to connect them with a buyer who sees the beauty and potential in preserving that legacy, has been one of the most rewarding moments of my career.”

The pine paneling found in its dining room is said to have come from old citrus crate material from the Tilden groves, a quiet but powerful tribute to the agricultural roots that gave the estate its identity.

Despite its Winter Garden address, Oakland Arms sits on a shared cultural landscape. Neighboring Windermere was born of the same groves, railways, and rural traditions. Together, these towns flourished, supported by bustling businesses along Plant Street, railroad lines that shipped citrus across the state, and cooperative efforts.
