Charity Spotlight | By Jocklyn Mundy
Windermere resident Brian Buckley turned his dream into a global movement that has inspired men around the world. Brian founded the Better Man Event (BME) in 2004 with a deep commitment to helping men live with greater purpose and impact. What began as a modest local gathering has since become global, reaching men in 60 countries and 19 languages.
A Vision of Purpose
The Better Man Event is a powerful two-hour annual event that centers around a theme encouraging self-reflection and personal growth, featuring speakers who share their journeys of overcoming obstacles and striving for excellence. Brian reflects, “We had filled the UCF arena with 8,000 men. Then, when the pandemic hit, we adapted by broadcasting the event from a smaller venue. The energy of a live audience in Orlando, combined with our global broadcast, creates something exceptional."
A Platform for Influential Voices
The event's speakers are always as diverse as they are impressive, featuring icons from various fields. From athletes and business leaders to spiritual figures and entertainers, these voices offer unique insights that inspire attendees to lead more meaningful lives. Notable participants have included actor Denzel Washington, sports legends Evander Holyfield, Tim Tebow, Jonathon Isaac, Dick Vitale, and Emmitt Smith, and musician Brian "Head" Welch of Korn.
This year's event, recorded live at Full Sail University, was themed 'Fatherless No More.’ It featured prominent figures, such as Daddy Yankee, Paul Teutul Jr. of Orange County Chopper, and retired NFL player Tim Johnson, now a pastor. They shared their journeys and insights on the theme, creating a powerful emotional connection with the audience. This event will be streamed in October, reaching over a million viewers.
A Legacy Continues
As the Better Man Event marks its third decade, Brian Buckley has transitioned from his leadership role. Although taking a step back, he will continue to serve on the board, ensuring that his strategic vision remains integral to the ministry's mission. Brian shared his optimism for the future, emphasizing the forward-thinking approach that the new executive director, Marcos Perez, brings to the event.
"The future looks bright for Better Man," Brian remarked, reflecting on the global reach and the ever-growing hunger for meaningful content among men worldwide.
The Better Man Event has profoundly impacted countless men, motivating them to become better fathers, husbands, brothers, and leaders.
The global launch is scheduled for October.
